Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has been sued over an alleged certificate forgery, as the APC crisis in Edo state continues to linger.

Edobor Williams, Ugbesia Abudu Godwin and Amedu Dauda Anakhu filed the lawsuit before the federal high court in Abuja, accusing governor Obaseki of forging his bachelor of arts (B.A.) certificate in classical studies from the University of Ibadan.

Joined as defendants are the All Progressives Congress (APC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector- General of Police (IGP).

The trio insisted that Governor Obaseki is “not qualified to run or seek the office of the governor of Edo state” in the forthcoming 2020 governorship election as the alleged offence contravenes section 182(1)(i) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

In a recent interview, Alex Ejesieme, counsel to the governor described the suit as frivolous and irrelevant, also revealing that the defence team is preparing the reply to challenge the plaintiffs in court next week.

This suit is coming few days after a federal high court in Abuja issued an interim order stopping Obaseki from arresting and prosecuting Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the APC who he has been at loggerheads with.
