Assimi Goita, a colonel in the Malian army, has declared himself head of the “National Committee for the salvation of the People”, a group created by rebels in the country. He announced his new position after a meeting with top civil servants on Wednesday he was one of the five soldiers who announced the formation of the salvation committee earlier on Wednesday.

 

An auto crash involving a truck and a Pontiac Vibe in the Iyana-Isolo area of Lagos has left three unharmed but the vehicle badly damaged. The truck which was laden with a twain 20ft containers had collided with the salon car painted in Red when the car was trying to avoid running into commercial buses underneath the bridge. The incident which involved the unregistered Pontiac was said to have occurred around 1: 57 pm.

A protest was staged on Wednesday, August 19, by undergraduates in Kwara state, requesting for the reopening of higher institutions in the state. Since March, Higher Institutions in Nigeria have been shut down by the government as part of measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the country.

 

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a fresh petition against the Nigerian government and all former heads of states for the roles they played during and after the civil war that claimed the lives of young men of the Igbo extraction known as Biafran Youths.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called on the Federal Government to pay arrears of withheld salaries of its members to pave way for further discussions on the outstanding issues of 2019 Memorandum of Action. The President of the association, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, made the call at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday. Ogunyemi said five months salaries of ASUU members in some universities were still withheld by the Accountant General of the Federation on account of non-registration on IPPIS.

An Enugu state woman has reportedly returned N13,946,400 mistakenly transferred to her account by a Non-Governmental Organization. According to the report, the woman whose name was given as Mrs Josephine Nchetaka Chukwujama Eze, in agreement with her husband Chukwujama Eze, returned the money approximated to N14 million, mistakenly credited to the wife’s bank account from a company she has no business with.

 

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, says that he is “not a lover of materialism”, adding that the only property he own is the one he bought in 2001 in London. Kanu who spoke during a broadcast on Friday morning, said he is contented with what he have. The IPOB leader also challenged anyone with evidence of a property he bought during the struggle for Biafra under IPOB, to come forward with tangible evidence.
