Gov. Uzodinma Prefers Innoson Vehicles For Security Operations: Here’s Why

On Wednesday, 5th May 2021, the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, oversaw the unraveling of 100 units of patrol vehicles, bought from Nigeria-based automakers Innoson to boost the state anti-crime/banditry outfit, Operation Search and Flush.

These units are made up of well-equipped, and highly acclaimed IVM G12 special purpose vehicle already popular with the Nigerian military and the IVM (troops) Carrier usually at its best during off-road duties, used by many security outfits and can be spotted in the convoys of some government officials at various levels.

This wasn’t the first time. In March, 2020, Governor Uzodinma had purchased 100 units of similarly equipped vehicles from IVM. The arising question is why does the government of Hope Uzodinma continually return for Innoson Vehicles to power the security outfit of the state.

Hope Uzodinma bought these vehicles when there wasn’t the problem of unknown gunmen and attacks at security operatives and police stations. Now, even with the attacks, Imo State is still going for IVM. There must be something they see in Innoson.

Oguwike Nwachukwu, the Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to Governor disclosed the reason. “We are [continually] buying Innoson because we are getting satisfaction from the vehicles,” he said. And if we are getting satisfaction, why go for imported vehicles?”

Additionally, he said that “Governor Hope Uzodinma believes in patronizing products with local content and supporting local manufacturers. The patronage of Innoson vehicles is also in line with the Federal Government’s policy of buying products manufactured in Nigeria.”

But these buy Nigeria goals are secondary. Security is a very sensitive issue and the governor will only return because the vehicles are serving their optimal purpose.

The way IVM builds their vehicles is the reason why they have basically become the go-to place for security vehicles in the country.

“We designed the vehicle specifically for the African road,” Innoson Vehicles said in a statement. “It comes with an innovative chassis, front double crossbeam independent suspension, and rear leaf spring dependent suspension, and socket shock absorber, which reduces bumping on the road effectively and enhances smoothness of vehicle.”

Governor Hope Uzodinma has now come to appreciate the power of Innoson’s attention to innovative details and brilliance in construction. He has continued to return.
