The Secretariat of Cross River State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Calabar, is currently under siege by heavily armed police men. Their mission seemed to be singular – to monitor the stripping of PDP flags of the building.

There are over fifty security operatives in all and they were conveyed to the venue in unmarked pickup trucks now parked before the building.

This is coming within three days of Governor Ben Ayade’s defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The exercise began very early on Saturday morning, 22nd May 2020. The exercise is still ongoing at the time of filing this story.

The immediate past State Chairman of the PDP who has also been serving as caretaker committee Chairman, Ntufam Inok Edim is reported to be around and discussing with a couple of others about the building which would now serve a new purpose.

Asides stripping the building of the PDP flags, painters had begun repainting it to green and white.

According to Cross River Watch, a news outlet on the ground, the security operatives blocked access from the Kia motor shop all the way to the secretariat which is located along the Murtala Muhammed Highway in Calabar.

Reports say the party is owing years of rent to its landlord. It’s not yet known who the landlord is and why he suddenly takes over the property without prior notice. If he gave them notice, he might not have to involve armed police men.

It could also be that the newly-minted APC Governor Ayade is behind this, doing this to spite his former party or to prove to his new buddies that he would totally cut links with PDP even to the last pin he brought into the party.

We suspect we haven’t heard the last of this news. This story would be updated.
