No fewer than 200,000 Nigerians are said to be expecting a cash transfer from the Federal Government.
Speaking on the development in Abuja on Monday, Iorwa Apera, Coordinator, National Social Safety Net Programme, said beneficiaries of the fund transfer are urban poor senior citizens that have no access to regular income and are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management official said identified citizens were authenticated by their respective communities. Apera explained further that 4 per cent of 35 million poor and vulnerable persons in the national register in 36 states and the FCT were elderly persons.
Two million individuals, categorized as senior citizens, were aggregated by location, education, age, status, disability, and sex, the government official noted.

Meanwhile, in January Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South), urged Nigerian youths to hold accountable agencies responsible for the N729bn social intervention funds by President Muhammadu Buhari government.
Reacting to the budgetary allocation made by the government towards the Social Intervention Programme in the 2020 budget on Thursday, January 28, Ndume said unless there is a follow-up on the disbursement process, its goal would only fail.

He urged the youths and all the intended beneficiaries of the N729bn social intervention funds, to begin to ask questions with the view of accessing the money which is meant for them.
