The leader of Nigerians in Diaspora for Americas, covering South America and North America, Obed Monago, has urged the governors of the Southeast to unite in a common front to confront the biggest issue facing the region – lack of infrastructures.

Monago made this remark on Friday, 27th August 2021, at Anaedooonline Third Anniversary Lecture where he was the second keynote speaker. He was charged to speak on the theme of the event, “South East: The Untapped Investment Hub of the Next Decade”.

Firstly, he urged Southeast governors to disregard the boundaries created by the Federal Government and worked with one accord for the betterment of their people. “The South East has what it takes to make Nigeria great again,” he said, pointing out that Nigeria was once great from the late 1970s through to the 1980s.

“At that time,” he said, “one naira used to exchange for two dollars.”

“The Southeast governors should come together and handle one project at a time. They can start with road construction, a strong internet network, and electricity. One by one.” With this, the South East is poised to become the Japan of Africa.

Obed Monago who is an automotive engineer urged the youths of Southeast to embrace practical education as no one ever became a billionaire by what he learned in a formal setting of education. “If we must go to school, STEM, computer, and designing courses should be prioritized.”

Engr. Obed Monago also urged businesses in the Southeast to build companies and ditch one-man businesses. He gave the example of Ekenedilichukwu Motors which folded up after the owner passed away. He commented that if Ekenedilichukwu had incorporated his business, it would definitely have survived his lifetime.

To close, Obed Monago urged the speakers and participants of the seminar to aspire to achieve just 30% of the issues discussed.

“We are good at presentations; we know how to talk but we struggle with implementation.”
