It is no longer new to say that there was fire outbreak today at Aba Road, Umuahia; anyone who knows Umuahia will testify that the road is one of the best locations of the Abia state capital, as the state’s government house is located there.

The inferno started from Master Energy Station, a petrol station supposedly belonging to the Minister of State Mines and Steel Development of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and former governorship aspirant of the state, Dr Uchechukwu  Sampson Ogah.

The incident stirred a lot of panic, since the location is a busy one in addition to the fact that residents are on the mandatory monthly environmental sanitation; do not forget that tanker explosion has been a trend within the last few days, Delta state, Anambra and now Abia state have all had their fair share.

However, the fear has been allayed following some claims that no life was lost in the incident.

Meanwhile, the fire gutted abodes surrounding the fuel station, including Senator Theodore Ahamefule Orji’s, the immediate past number one citizen of the state, campaign house.

The Secretary to the Government ot the state, Barr. Chris Ezem as well as the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Professor Anthony Agbazuere, could not speak due to the shock of the sorrowful occurrence.

The fire was said to have emanated from a tanker that was offloading diesel at the fuel station, probably as a result of mistake by the people working on the offloading.

Air Peace Apologises for Cancelled Flights

It was quite saddening that the effort of fire fighters was quite discouraging as they ran out of water twice, despite their effort to help contain the conflagration; that further infuriated many eyewitnesses, as poor response to fire disaster, which had occured in Onitsha, repeated itself in Umuahia just within few days.

The police were said to have also stood while the confusion was raging to ensure that hoodlums did not capitalise on the sad incident to loot people’s belongings.

Recall that the 52-year old philantropist and business mogul, Uche Ogah had a legal tussle with the governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, over the number one seat of the state in 2014.
