Sign Electoral Act Amendment Bill Into Law – PDP Govs Plead With Buhari

The Governors Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has encouraged President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill into law as soon as possible.

The governors’ request was included in a communiqué read by its Vice Chairman, Abia State Governor, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, during the regular meeting of the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa on Monday.

It also voiced dissatisfaction with the problem of tainted fuel being given to Nigerians, urging the federal government to investigate and prosecute the offenders.

The Governors also commended the PDP for winning 43 out of 62 councillorship posts in the recently concluded Abuja Area Council election, and asked INEC to fix all identified loopholes and enhance the operation of the BIVAS Machine in future elections, according to the statement.

The forum slammed “the APC-led Federal Government’s deceit, inconsistency, and insincerity on the gasoline subsidy scheme, which has been poorly and corruptly handled.”

“The statistics of consumption and assigned to Nigerians look false and exaggerated,” the report continued.
They demanded that a thorough inquiry be carried out into the situation.”

The forum also welcomed the court decision on Police Trust Fund deductions from the Federation Account, demanding that “the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission should expedite action on the new Revenue Allocation formula in such a way as to increase allocation to States and Local Government.”

The forum berated the way the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is being run as an alternate government, calling for the streamline of its functions and processes to be constitutionally compliant.

As the National Assembly winds down this current phase of the Constitution Review exercise, the forum urged that they revisit the issue of devolution of more powers to the States and Local Governments.

PDP Governors also urged the National Assembly to transfer some items from the Exclusive Legislative List to Concurrent List.
