Imo: Police Kill Four Suspected IPOB Members While Repelling Bomb Attack

On Sunday, the Imo State Police Command announced that four hoodlums who stormed Omuma Police Station in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State had been slain.

The command stated that on March 20, 2022, at approximately 0300 hours, hoodlums suspected to be members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra/ Eastern Security Network arrived in huge numbers at Omuma Police Station with various calibres of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Hussaini, confirmed this in a press release issued by the Command’s spokesman, Micheal Abattam, who claimed the hoodlums fired intermittently but were quickly repelled by tactical teams and DSS agents who responded quickly.

“The Police Operatives engaged them in a ferocious gun duel and in the process, four of the bandits were neutralized on the spot, while others scampered into the jungle having suffered a big defeat, with a number of them suffering varying degrees of gunshot wounds,” according to the command. The joint security operatives did not suffer any casualties.

“On the spot, five undetonated different capacities of Improvised Explosives Devices were recovered from the neutralized bandits and charms. The Police Bomb Unit have taken custody of the bombs for detonation.”

The CP said the Command’s Tactical Teams are conducting a vigorous and aggressive combing of the bush to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and to recover their arms/ammunition since they cannot go far because of the huge damage done to them.

The CP while commending the officers and men for their gallantry, urged them not to relent in their efforts until all criminal elements and their partners are apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.

He appealed to the Imolites for their continuous support and collaboration by giving security agencies, especially the police, credible and timely information and to report any person seen treating bullet wounds or hiding within the community, to the nearest police station for prompt action.
