Terrorists detonated bombs suspected to be IEDs on the rail track around Katari, Kaduna State, on Monday, causing a train bound for Kaduna to derail.

According to reports, the train that left Idu train station in Abuja at 6 p.m. on Monday hit an explosive device about 30 minutes before arriving at Rigasa train station in Kaduna.

Details of the incident are still vague at the time of posting this article, but Anaedoonline.ng has learned that a combined team of security officers was able to transport all of the passengers to safety.

“There is no network in the region, so we can’t obtain any information until the team we’ve assigned arrives,” a security source said of the incident.

“What we know is that suspected IEDs were planted on the track and the train has derailed. We don’t know for sure if there is any injury or death.”

The development was confirmed by the former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Shehu Sani on his Twitter account.

He wrote, “Villagers along Abuja-Kaduna road called to confirm hearing multiple gunshots and attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train by terrorists.”
