A stampede at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday reportedly wounded an unidentified Nigeria Football Federation official and the head of the Ogun State Football Association, Ganiyu Majekodunmi.

This comes as Nigeria prepares for a vital World Cup qualifying match between the Super Eagles and Ghana’s Black Stars, according to The Punch.

The incident occurred at the stadium’s VIP access gate, where supporters overcame security officers to force their way in.

Some of the ball guys were also hurt to differing degrees.

At 3:25 p.m., thousands of supporters who had been waiting outside the gates for nearly two hours grew disruptive and forced their way inside the stadium.

Shina Oludare, a Goal.com Online Editor who was on the scene, stated he was beaten by troops who observed him filming the pandemonium.

“While recording a stampede scene at the entrance of the M.K.O Stadium, the military (three army & several policemen) attacked me, flogged the hell out of me & broke my phone despite identifying myself as a journalist with my accreditation hung around my neck,” Oludare wrote on Twitter, recounting his ordeal.
