2023: Buhari’s Idea of Consensus Candidate Rejected By APC Governors

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are allegedly opposed to the APC’s presidential and gubernatorial candidates in the 2023 general elections being chosen by consensus.

The governor stated their stance in a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

The governors, who were at the residence to break the Ramadan fast with the president, were said to have rejected the concept of selecting candidates for various elected offices by agreement.

The governors instructed the President and the party leadership to use indirect primaries to choose candidates for various elective positions in the general elections in 2023.

According to the allegation, the National Working Committee (NWC) has already chosen its presidential candidate and other flagbearers for other seats through an indirect type of primaries.

The NWC made the decision during their meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, according to the platform, in preparation for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that is now taking place in Abuja.

The NWC reportedly invited all hopefuls to put their popularity to the test in the field, abandoning the consensus system that was utilized to choose party leaders during the convention last month.

There have been rumors that the party may pick its presidential candidate through a consensus process, similar to what it did at its previous convention in Abuja.
