Reno Omokri, a controversial novelist, has called presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra state Peter Obi a “over performer” who became governor without the help of a godfather.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, a former presidential adviser stated on Twitter that the former governor was a great candidate when compared to other Southern contenders who have declared their intentions to run for president in 2023.
Reno Omokri, a former adviser to former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, praised Peter Obi for his previous achievements and performance, just weeks after backing Atiku Abubakar as his preferred presidential candidate.

“Peter Obi is a wonderful candidate,” he wrote. In terms of prior performance, none of the Southern contenders comes close to him. Without a Godfather, he rose to the position of Governor. He fought powers to retain his mandate. And when he got it, he performed. He over performed”.
In 2018, Peter Obi was named the PDP’s running mate to Atiku Abubakar.
However, in 2022, Mr Obi declared his interest to run for the president of Nigeria in 2023.
Mr Obi made the declaration while addressing traditional rulers and Presidents-General of the 181 communities in the state at Government House, Awka.
