Former Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, Abba Kyari, has claimed that he is being threatened with death at the Kuje jail institution.

Kyari expressed his concern about sharing a detention institution with criminals.

The suspended DCP revealed this while pleading with an Abuja Federal High Court to reconsider his bail application, which was first denied.

Nureini Jimoh, Kyari’s lawyer, made the comment in a document handed to the Abuja Federal High Court.

The document reads partly: “At the centre, the applicants who were head and deputy head of the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force met stiff resistance, attack and open threats to the lives of the applicants by series head (sic) of criminal gang that they had busted.

“There is no correctional centre that the criminals that have been arrested by the IRT under the headship of the applicant in furtherance of their constitutional and statutory duties as police officers cannot be found and there is a high likelihood of threat to the lives of the applicants.”

Kyari was detained to Kuje Correctional Centre until the outcome of his trial by the court in March.

He was detained on February 12 by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and arraigned on March 7 on drug trafficking charges.
