PVC Machines Stolen As Unknown Gunmen Attack INEC Officials

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was purportedly attacked by several unidentified gunmen in Enugu on July 14, 2022.

According to reports that reached Naija News, the attackers left the scene with two voter registration machines.

According to reports, the attack took place in the state’s Igboeze North Local Government Area.

INEC Reveals Why Dead Persons From Voter Register Can’t Be Removed

Festus Okoye, the chairman of the INEC Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed the occurrence in a brief statement and said that the attackers also damaged other registration equipment.

He disclosed that during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process at a Community Primary School Umuopu in Umuozzi Ward 19 in Enugu State, the personnel had been attacked.

The statement reads: “The gunmen fired sporadically into the air to disperse registrants and registration officials. In the ensuing stampede, one of our staff sustained injuries and is receiving treatment in a hospital,” the statement read.

“Two voter registration machines and personal items of the staff such as mobile phones were lost.

“Consequently, Ward level registration of voters in Igboeze North is hereby suspended”.

Okoye noted that the state police command has been informed of the incident and has since commenced an investigation into the matter.
