Amusan Hopes To Win Again In Zurich On Thursday

Tobilola Amusan, Nigeria’s most prominent athlete at the moment, believes she is in perfect position to extend her winning streak in Zurich on Thursday.

When she returns to the Letzigrund Stadium, the World and Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles champion and record holder says she is looking forward to recreating the circumstances that earned her the historic Diamond League title in Zurich last year.

Amusan became the first Nigerian athlete to win a Diamond League discipline when she won the final in Zurich in a then-African record time of 12.42 seconds.

The event led to a chain of firsts for the Nigerian, thereafter, as she became the first from her country to win a world title, the first to set a world record, the first to successfully defend a Commonwealth Games title, and of course, the first to set a Games record in the high hurdles.

The Nigerian was in action at the ISTAF Berlin meeting on Sunday and won the race in 12.45 seconds.

The petite reigning Nigeria, African, Commonwealth and World 100m hurdles champion took to her Facebook page after the event to express her gratitude to God for winning for the third straight visit to Berlin.

She also hopes to successfully defend her Diamond League trophy in Zurich at the Diamond League final.

Amusan wrote: “Glory to God for today (Sunday’s) victory at the ISTAF Berlin meet. Clocked 12.45s, which was the identical time I ran last weekend (Aug 26) to finish second at the Lausanne Diamond League.

“Next stop is the Diamond League final later this week. Same stadium my winning spree began last year when I became the first Nigerian to win a Diamond League Trophy.

“I look forward to that moment once again. Your will be done, oh Lord.”
