Following another masterful performance by Everton’s Alex Iwobi against Liverpool in the English Premier League on Saturday, encomiums for the midfielder continue to flood in, with French World Cup winner and former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf the latest to praise the Nigeria international.
Iwobi impressed in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, as Everton and the Reds played out a goalless draw.
The Super Eagles forward’s fortunes have taken many football fans by surprise, and even in defeat, the former Arsenal star has consistently put forth a performance worthy of acclaim.
In their game against Liverpool on match-day 6, the 26-year-old was one of the Toffees’ best performers, as he coolly controlled the game and made some key passes into their opponents dangerous area.
Frank Lampard’s men were denied all three points by the Virtual Assistant Referee, who ruled out a Neal Maupay’s second half strike for offside.
France ’98 World Cup winner Leboeuf, in his analysis with ESPN, said he was left impressed with Iwobi’s performance.
Iwobi Nominated To Round 32 EFL Team
“I have to say I have to give credit to Everton and Iwobi,” the Frenchman said.
“What I saw from Iwobi in the middle of the park was absolutely exceptional. That guy was played in another position but he was still outstanding and exceptional with the other three guys – (Demarai) Gray, (Anthony) Gordon and Maupay – in front of him.
“They gave a hard time to Liverpool’s three defenders. It was a hard game for Liverpool because they fought so hard to stay in the game.”
Iwobi has not missed any minute for Everton in the English Premier League this season.
