2023 Presidency: Olu Falae Opens Up On Endorsing Peter Obi

Chief Olu Falae, a former secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and a leader of the Pan Yoruba sociopolitical organization Afenifere, has disputed claims that he backed Peter Obi for president of the Labour Party (LP).

According to prior rumors, the Afenifere chieftain was endorsing Obi’s campaign, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

However, the former SGF said that the information was untrue in a statement that was signed by his personal assistant, Captain Moshood Raji (rtd).

The statement read: “The attention of Chief Olu Falae has just been drawn to a publication that has gone viral in which the former Secretary to the Federal government is quoted as saying that he is supporting the candidature of Mr Peter Obi as his preferred choice in the 2023 Presidential race.

“Although Chief Falae admitted that he said that it was true that the South East had not had the opportunity of being Nigeria’s President, it’s for them to persuade other Nigerians that they can offer something better than candidates from other geopolitical zones.”

Raji continued by saying that his principle does not view the presidency as an automatic position and that contenders must establish their deservingness.

He clarified that before endorsing a candidate, Falae will take factors like capacity, experience, and a demonstrated track record into account.

In order to avoid misleading the people, he argued that it was crucial that they refute the idea that the Afenifere leader had endorsed any particular candidate.

“It is necessary to await the programmes and manifestos of the political parties and their candidates before arriving at a particular candidate to support,” he said.
