Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for president, met Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, on Thursday in Abuja.

According to information obtained by Anaedoonline.ng, Atiku offered to back Wike’s bid for the presidency in 2027 in exchange for the Rivers governor’s support in the 2023 election.

This comes after Governor Wike’s team withdrew from the PDP’s presidential primary race a few days prior as a result of Iyorchia Ayu’s refusal to step down as the party’s national chairman.

Atiku and Wike did meet on Thursday in Abuja, with Atiku appealing with Wike to convince his camp to support the PDP’s campaign.

Atiku allegedly offered to support Wike’s bid for president in 2027 at the meeting, according to sources close to the event, but Wike declined and said he would discuss his team before responding to Atiku.

According to a source, Governor Wike was not pleased with Atiku’s pledge to support his bid for the presidency in 2027 because he had just made the same commitment to the Igbo people a few days prior.

According to him, the governor of Rivers State has also noted that over time, Atiku breaks his pledges as a result of pressure from those around him.
