Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president, has voiced his viewpoint regarding the #EndSARS memorial demonstration that took place in Lagos State on Thursday.

It will be recalled that a memorial parade was conducted to commemorate the first #EndSARS demonstration in 2020, when young people took to the streets to demand improved governance and condemn police brutality.

In a personally signed statement posted to his Twitter account in response to Thursday’s memorial demonstration, Obi stated that the event is an opportunity to remember those who died during the 2020 #EndSARS protest.

He continued by saying that the ultimate sacrifices made by those who died during the demonstration would not go in vain and that he would never forget their cries for justice.

He wrote: “Today, we mourn our brothers and sisters whose lives were cut short during the #EndSARSProtest. They died fighting for a better nation. Their cries for justice and good governance remain in our hearts. Their supreme sacrifices, and our labours, will never be in vain. – PO”

Falz, a rapper best known by his stage name Folarin Falana and one of the organizers of the #EndSARS funeral march, has declared that the protest is not a political movement.

Falz, who participated in the #EndSARS demonstration during the past two years, claimed that the movement was in no way associated with any political party.

The movement is solely in favor of social justice, he added, thus there was no campaign literature. He claimed that the only reason protesters showed out was because they had heard his call to action honoring the Lekki tollgate shooting’s dead heroes.

He said; “EndSars has never been a political movement. It has never had any affiliation with any party.
