According to Mr. Obioha, Labour Party’s Peter Obi will deny competing political parties the chance they received during the general elections of 2015 and 2019.

According to a group in the South-East, it will be made sure that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, receives 99.9% of the votes cast in the region’s geopolitical zone in 2023.

Reverend Okechukwu Obioha, national coordinator of the South-East for President 2023 Movement, made the announcement on Sunday in Enugu at the Obi-Datti support groups conference sponsored by the Alliance for a New Nigeria (AFANN).

According to Mr. Obioha, the group would not allow competing political parties the same chance they received at the general elections of 2015 and 2019, when they received between 5% and 20% of votes cast in the Southeast.

“We were looking for an alternative and with the movement that is going on in the country as well as our grassroots movement, Obi is sure of 99 per cent votes from the Southeast.

“The group has been sensitising the electorate on the logo to vote,” he said.

Mr. Obioha emphasized that Mr. Obi will not be president of the South-East, but of Nigeria, just as the late President Umaru Yar’Adua and President Goodluck Jonathan were not presidents of the North or the Niger Delta.

The coordinator praised AFANN for organizing the conference and predicted that it will bring together all of the many support organizations for the LP presidential candidate.

“We’ve begun setting up the groupings. We have a space, so we’re encouraging any support organizations without their own locations to use it.

“AFFANN is taking this chance to invite everyone to join forces so that our ideas can function as a cohesive whole.

According to what he had observed today, the conference is supported by the various factions.

Ejike Nwobodo, the director of legal and communication for AFANN, stated in his speech that the organization was not requesting that other support groups merge with AFANN but rather to cooperate in order to deliver the Obi-Datti ticket.

He clarified that it was all about collaboration and teamwork, in which people who have resources may help those who have not.

“After today, we look forward to follow-up conferences which will no longer be organised by AFANN,” he said.

Earlier, Professor Eddie Oparaoji, Chairman of the Labour Party of the United States, spoke over Zoom and emphasized the need to bring together different groups that were backing the Obi-Datti ticket.

Mr. Oparaoji emphasized that the LP in the United States of America would collaborate with and support reputable support organizations for the realization of Obi’s dream in Nigeria, particularly in the Southeast geopolitical zone.
