The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has declared a nationwide protest to demand the release of Aminu Mohammed, a student at the Federal University of Dutse in Jigawa State, who was detained and imprisoned over a tweet against Aisha Buhari, the President’s wife, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

In a statement received by Newsmen on Thursday, NANS President Usman Barambu stated that the protest, which will begin on Monday, will be indefinite until Mohammed is free.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, NANS has already apologized to the First Lady while also demanding for the student’s release. Because this was not working, NANS stated that it had exhausted all alternatives for consultation and consolidation and would be confronting.

“We have consulted and consolidated which yielded no desirable results in seeking the freedom of Mohammed, hence, the protest shall commence as follows: Monday, December 5, 2022 nationwide.

“Please note that our demonstration shall continue until he is released unconditionally,” the statement said.

According to Anaedoonline, Mohammed was apprehended in November by security officers who tracked him down to Jigawa and brought him to Abuja.

Mohammed was later remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State by Justice Halilu Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory High Court for allegedly hurting the first lady’s reputation.
