2023: Again, Buhari Pledges Free and Fair Elections

President Muhammadu Buhari has underlined that the 2023 general elections will be free, fair, and credible, and that any type of manipulation will be prohibited.

The President made the remark at the State House in Abuja while hosting a West African Elders Forum Pre-Election Mediation Mission led by former Sierra Leonean President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma.

Buhari indicated that he would enable people to choose the leaders they want, citing the successful conduct of off-season elections in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun States.

People should vote for anyone they want, in whatever party, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President, Femi Adesina. We will not allow anyone to intimidate the masses with money and goons.

He voiced his belief that elections are much more difficult to rig today because Nigerians are better informed and understand that the benefits of dialogue outweigh the benefits of carrying firearms.

At a related development, the President received a group of Gombe State political, religious, and business leaders who paid him a visit in his office to express gratitude for his role in the commercial finding of oil in the state’s Kolmani area.

In briefing his visitors, Buhari stated that, despite what his critics may claim, his administration has achieved progress in stabilizing the country’s security situation, recovering the economy, and combating corruption.

The President described the visit as a morale booster and stated that he was only doing his job.

Going back in time, the President recalled that while serving as Petroleum Minister for over three years in the 1970s, the feasibility study was created in the belief that it would further stabilize the polity, and that for the oil discovery, the group should be commended.

Meanwhile, Gombe State Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya stated that the initiative will improve the nation’s socioeconomic fortunes, create jobs, and assist farmers.
