According to the National Association of Nigerian Students in Turkey, Turkish authorities have brought in Nigerian students who were traumatised as a result of the country’s 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Monday for post-trauma therapy.
The earthquake, which has already claimed thousands of lives, toppled entire apartment buildings in Turkish cities and caused even more destruction for the millions of Syrians who had been forced to flee their homes due to years of war.
Some Nigerian students were traumatised, according to Yakubu Sabo, the president of NANS’ Turkish zone, who talked with our correspondent on Tuesday. He added that they were receiving post-trauma analysis and would be released once they were given the all-clear.
Sabo said, “Turkey is an earthquake prone area. Some of our new students were traumatised and have been taken in for post-shock analysis. They will be released as soon as they are certified okay. The old students are already used to it. We will provide more updates along the line”.

President Buhari To Visit Turkey After Numerous Trips In Three Months

According to The Time, earthquakes are not uncommon in Turkey. The country is situated on the Anatolian plate which borders two major fault lines; the North Anatolian fault, which stretches across the country from west to east, and the East Anatolian fault, which is in eastern Turkey.

The former has been the site of several disastrous earthquakes, according to the Geological Society of London, including the 1939 earthquake in north-eastern Turkey that resulted in the deaths of 30,000 people.
