Anambra State police killed one gunman during an attack on the Ogidi Police Station in the state’s Idemili North Local Government Area.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police command’s public relations officer, revealed this to journalists in a press release.

He said: “Today 13/2/2023, by 2:15 am, police operatives foiled an attack by armed men on the Ogidi Police Station, demobilize one of the armed men, and recovered many expended cartridges and 25 litres of PMS.”

He stated the hoodlums, who were suspected of coming to burn down the police station, arrived in huge numbers around 2 a.m., using automobiles and motorcycles.

“They came in their numbers with an unmarked Toyota Hiace bus, a Toyota Hilux and three motorcycles, and started shooting indiscriminately and attempted to gain access in Ogidi Police Station, Idemili North.

“They were fiercely resisted by police officers on duty, and due to the superior gunfire of the operatives, the hoodlums fled the scene while one of the armed men was neutralized by the operatives,” he added.

Ikenga stated that the police station is undamaged and that no casualties have been reported on the police side.

He went on to say that tactical teams from the command had been sent and that the operation was still ongoing, and that more information about their hunt for the criminals will be released later.

Unidentified individuals have lately launched a new attack on police buildings and personnel in Anambra State.

A police station in Ihiala was recently attacked, while Obosi and other areas have also been targeted.

The most recent was the murder of three Delta State Police Command officers on official duty in Abia State.

Three of the four men in the truck were slain when they were apprehended in Ihiala.
