The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been directed by a Federal High Court in Lagos to electronically transfer results from the state’s governorship and house of assembly elections on March 11.
According to news reports, the Labour Party, its governorship candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and 37 others filed an ex-parte motion titled FHC/L/CS/370/2023.
Judge Peter Lifu, the sitting judge, ruled on Friday that the electoral umpire must use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to upload a scanned copy of the EC8A to INEC’s Result Viewing webpage (IReV).

The judge further ordered that the results be uploaded promptly after voting in all polling units, and that the results sheet be pasted in each PU after voting in the state.
Judge Lifu also granted a mandamus order directing INEC to enforce Section 27(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 in the delivery of election materials by hiring partisan logistic providers that are neutral, qualified, and dependable.
As a result, the presiding judge scheduled the substantive hearing for March 7.
