Beatrice Itubo has been confirmed as the Labour Party’s (LP) governorship candidate in Rivers State by the party’s national leadership.
According to news sources, the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, confirmed the news on Monday during the official introduction of Itubo to party members and Nigerians.
Addressing at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, Abure urged Rivers citizens to vote for Itubo as the state’s next governor in order to prove a point.

He stated that Itubo’s success in the upcoming governorship race will demonstrate that the LP won Rivers in the recently ended presidential election, adding that voting for her meant voting for the party’s standard bearer, Peter Obi.
He said: “Let us prove a point. Rivers State is Obidient. It will be easier for us to prove that we won Rivers State in the presidential election if we win it again in the gubernatorial election.
“Do not be deceived by the PDAPC’s affliction that you should vote for them. It’s a ploy to make regaining our mandate more difficult.
“A vote for our governor is a vote for our mandate as represented by Peter Obi.”
Prior to the presentation, there was some controversy regarding the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers state.

Fafaa Princewill, a politician from Port Harcourt, has announced himself the party’s governorship candidate.
Nonetheless, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognized Itubo as the party’s state flagbearer.
Supporters of Princewill’s camp said that his name was submitted to INEC following a court ruling on February 2 that recognized him as the candidate.
The LP national leadership’s approval of Itubo, on the other hand, has put an end to the issue surrounding the party’s governorship candidacy in the state.
