Victor Osimhen, a Super Eagles striker who currently plays for Serie A club Napoli, has voiced a desire to play in the English Premier League (EPL) in the near future.

According to Newsmen, the 24-year-old Nigerian discussed this yesterday in Rome, when he traveled to accept the Foreign Press Association’s award for Foreign Athlete of the Year in Italy.

The Serie A top scorer said on Monday that he wanted to give Napoli fans a league title but was also looking ahead.

“A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and strongest league,” Osimhen said.

He added: “I’m in one of the best leagues of the world, which is the Italian Serie A.

“Of course, I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League someday, but it’s a process and I just want to keep on this momentum.”

Remember that Osimhen signed Napoli from Lille Metropole in 2020. The Nigerian professional footballer has scored 19 league goals this season as Napoli enjoys a 15-point lead in the race for their first title since Diego Maradona’s days. According to news reports, Argentine superstar Diego Maradona led the team to its only two victories in 1987 and 1990.

“As a football player, when you arrive in Napoli, you fall in love even more with football, because they base all their lives on the game and the support for the team,” Osimhen said to the press.

He added: “To be able to try to give them something to remember is a big mission for me.

“When you talk about Napoli, the first player who comes in the mind of the fans is Maradona. Even if we can win the Scudetto, we can not compare with what Maradona has done for this club; he’s more than a legend.

“We’ve been doing quite well this season, but I don’t consider myself as an icon until we achieve the objective.”

Asked about racism in stadiums, he called it a “Bad disease. I’ve been racially abused twice, and it’s a bad feeling.”
