The claims that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), won the 2023 presidential election in 19 states have been called deceptive.

According to Newsmen, following the abnormalities in the results compilation, there were internet suspicions last week that Peter Obi, who finished third with six million votes, had won the election.

Dino Melaye, spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign council, also repeated allegations of the LP winning in 19 states.

Following that, the former governor of Anambra State announced in his first post-election speech that he had won the poll and would prove it in court.

Nevertheless, according to data from the Independent National Election Commission’s website, Peter Obi did not win in 19 states, according to the fact-checking organization Dubawa.

It stated that results from polling units across Nigeria had not to be fully uploaded to the IReV platform, and that the story of Peter Obi winning 19 states was based on a poll done by Nextier on January 27, 2023.

The report read: “DUBAWA visited the INEC’s result viewing porta at 05:47 pm on March 7, 2023, only results from 164,233 polling units have been uploaded on the IREV portal representing 92.87% of the total 176,846 polling units.

“This means the results of 12,613 polling units nationwide had yet to be uploaded on the IReV portal.

“It is, therefore, misleading to dismiss the result announced by INEC and claim that Mr Obi won 19 states, including the FCT.

“Also, the result uploaded by a Facebook user, Mazi Chiemena Samuel, which showed Labour Party’s victory in about 18 states, including the FCT, is not from the IReV portal. Instead, it is a report from a poll conducted by Nextier on January 27, 2023.”
