HOA Elections: Plateau Speaker, Majority Leader Lose Seats To PDP Candidates

Mr Yakubu Sanda, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, and Mr Daniel Nanlong, Majority Leader, have both lost their seats to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challengers.

Sanda, who represents Pengana State Constituency, was defeated in the House of Assembly election on March 18 by Ms Happiness Akawu of the PDP.

The Returning Officer who delivered the results stated that Akawu received 9,926 votes to Sanda’s 7,936 votes.

According to the results, Mr Faisal Maitala of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) finished third with 6,721 votes.

“Mrs Happiness Akawu, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes cast, is hereby declared winner of the election and returned elected,” he declared.

Meanwhile, Nanlong, a two-term member from Mikang State Constituency, was defeated in his re-election bid by Mr Moses Sule of the PDP.

Sule received 12,880 votes to defeat the incumbent, who had 9,848 votes, according to the results given by Mikang Constituency Returning Officer, Prof. Umaru Takum.

“Having fulfilled the requirements of the law and received the maximum number of votes, Moses Sule of the PDP is hereby pronounced winner and is returned elected,” Takum added.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the PDP won the majority of the 24 state constituencies listed by INEC.

According to the findings, the PDP would likely have the majority of seats in the 10th Plateau State House of Assembly.
