Benue State Governor-elect Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has stated that he does not require a wife to serve as First Lady in order to manage the North Central state.

Tersoo Kula, the governor-spokesman, elect’s indicated on Tuesday that the governor-elect has worked as a Catholic priest for years without a wife and that his new role will be no different.

According to Alia, the Nigerian Constitution does not even recognize the Office of the First Lady, and hence the First Lady plays no significant role in state governance.

He argued that a new Culture is feasible by adopting a new style of thinking and acting, as well as creating a new ethos that produces greater angels and not worst demons .

He said: “My fellow citizens, a new Benue is possible, and I enjoin all of you to join hands with me to make it a reality. Let us begin by embracing a new way of thinking and action by cultivating a new ethos that expresses the best of us, that brings forth our better angels and not our worst demons.

“Unending political recriminations and willful economic sabotage must give way to accommodation and the pursuit of loftier ideals.”

Alia also praised his opponents for making the recently concluded governorship race a competitive one, saying it is now time to band together and confront the difficulties of progress.

He said, “I would like to congratulate my opponents from the other parties for making it an interesting contest. However, the anxious period of politicking is over. Now is the time to unite and face the challenges of development.”

Alia also vowed to erase the backlog of pay arrears, pensions, and gratuities, resettle IDPs in their ancestral homes, address persisting security concerns, and pave the way for a flourishing Benue.

The governor-elect stated that he must lay the groundwork for a robust economy and begin to construct a future economy based on skills and abilities, education, and the application of technology.
