Politicians’ proposals about forming an interim administration have been denounced by the House of Representatives.

The condemnation was issued on Tuesday, following the passage of a resolution of urgent public significance proposed by Unyime Idem, an Akwa-Ibom Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator.

The DSS has previously stated in a statement that Nigerians should take the threat of interim government seriously.

When introducing the motion, Mr Unyime stated that politicians are encouraging dissatisfied citizens to seek “unconstitutional action.”

He called the interim administration undemocratic, illegal, and unconstitutional under Nigerian law.

Sergius Ogun requested that the SSS arrest conspirators involved in the attempt to impose an interim government on Nigeria in his contribution.

“You’re wasting our precious time telling us to condemn it. If this government is alive to its responsibilities this should not even be an issue that will we will be dissipating energy on in this House,” he said.

“For good reasons, understand that we are under a democratic tenet when they are mentioning this—the situation we have found ourselves, we must talk to ourselves to ensure the right thing is being done,” he said.

As a result, the House directed security agencies to be on high alert in order to prevent a breakdown in law and order.
