Northern Group Blasts Igbos Over Renewed Calls For Unconditional Release Of Nnamdi Kanu

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has called for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as disloyal.

In a statement issued Saturday, the group’s spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, called on federal authorities to disregard such unpatriotic calls and remain steadfast in seeing Kanu’s prosecution through to its logical conclusion so as not to set the wrong precedent of regional leaders interfering with the course of justice.

The northern group stated that Ndigbo leaders and organisations’ calls for Kanu’s release without trial have gotten louder since the February 25 presidential election and the subsequent emergence of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as President-elect.

As a result, it denounced Ohanaeze and other Ndigbo leaders and groups’ continuing calls for the premature termination of Kanu’s trial, calling them irrational, illogical, unnecessary, foolish, and impractical.

The CNG also fought back amid renewed Ndigbo demands to secure Kanu’s unconditional release.

It added: “Instead, the President should remain resolute in ensuring the diligent prosecution of Kanu, his sponsors, backers and collaborators in the heinous crimes against the Nigerian state and innocent Nigerian citizens.

“In order to prevent a descent into anarchy at this day and age, and to forestall mass killings, untold sufferings and atrocities, the federal government must not accede to the current pressure by Ohanaeze and its ilk to secure the unconditional release of the leader of a group that has been duly proscribed as terrorist.”

It also alerted the incoming administration on the dangers of falling for the antics of the Ndigbo.
