Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker in Nigeria, has criticized Dave Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi State, for naming the state’s recently built international airport after President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sani stated that naming two airports in the nation after Buhari was sycophantic and immoral.
According to news reports, the Ebonyi State Government has obtained permission from the Federal Government to conduct the first test flight at the brand-new international airport in Onueke.
The airport bears President Muhammadu Buhari’s name.
Sani responded to the news on Thursday via his Twitter account, urging Buhari to politely decline the offer. He also pointed out that the airports might be named after other notable people, including the late Chinua Achebe, Emeka Anyaoku, Victoria Ironsi, or Odumegwu Ojukwu.
He wrote, “The construction of Ebonyi Airport is commendable. Kudos. But It’s immoral & sycophantic to name two airports in the country after Buhari. He should respectfully decline it.The airport should rather be named after Chinua Achebe, Emeka Anyaokwu,Victoria Ironsi or the Ikemba himself.”
