The construction of an international airport at Onueke, Ezza South LGA, cost the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, over 36 billion naira.

According to news sources, President Muhammadu Buhari will inaugurate the airport, which bears his name, during the first week of May 2023.

Speaking to state stakeholders and a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Aviation on the project’s completion during a flight test at the Onueke airport, Umahi said that the airport employed more than 400 Ebonyi State residents.

Thoughts On The Politics Of The Anambra Airport And Governor Obiano

The Governor clarified that he is prepared to transfer control of the airport to the federal government because the state administration is unable to manage the airport.

Several hundred passengers from Lagos and Abuja were reportedly on board two Air Peace Hopper planes, Nos. 5N-BXF and 5-BUY, when they landed at the airport.

The general manager of Aerodrome Services, Mr. Oladipo Adebayo, who was speaking on behalf of the director of the Civil Aviation Authority, CAA, had earlier referred to the airport as the best airport in Nigeria.

He commended the Ebonyi State Government for utilizing high-quality tools to build the airport and added that with such high-grade components employed, the airport would last the test of time.
