Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, says he feels that Labor remains the backbone of production as the country observes Workers Day.

Following his attendance at the May Day celebration at Eagle Square in Abuja, Obi made his claim in a post on his verified Twitter account on Monday.

The former governor of Anambra State claimed that he took use of the occasion to implore all industrious Nigerians to continue their commitment to creating a better and more modern nation.

According to Obi, the nation cannot discuss switching from consumption to production without considering the wellbeing of its workforce.

He said, “Today, I attended the Solidarity Rally of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja. I believe that Labour remains the backbone of productivity.

“We cannot talk about moving from consumption to production without caring about the welfare and well-being of the greatest tool of that revolution, which is human labour.

“I thank the leadership of the Nigerian Labour (NLC and TUC) for their invitation and commend them for the theme of this year’s Workers Day (“Workers Rights and Socio-Economic Justice”) which is quite topical and very apt for today’s Nigeria.
