Barrister Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor in Adamawa State and suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has refuted claims that he accepted N2 billion to declare Aisha Binani the victor of the governorship election.
Ari argued that revealing the outcome was his obligation and was supported by law in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service.
He said, “I have no regrets whatsoever, when you do something that was allowed to be done in a democracy, there are no regrets,” when asked about his election-related conduct.
UPDATE: Police, DSS, INEC Invite Suspended Adamawa REC, Yunusa-Ari
Yunusa-Ari denied allegations that he had eluded the police and said he intended to appear before them this week.
He further stated that he had not been sought out by the DSS or the Nigerian Police.
News organizations learned that the suspended REC claimed he never accused the state’s governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, of accepting bribes from anyone, but claimed that bribery charges existed.
Yunusa-Ari stated, “I never said the Governor bribed anyone, but I knew there were allegations.
“I swear, I had nothing to do with either Binani or Fintiri. All these stories about the N2 billion bribe were social media hype.”
