The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claims that the uncertainty surrounding the party’s performance report for the 2023 presidential race is the reason why the long-awaited National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting has not yet taken place.

According to news sources, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the PDP’s national secretary and candidate for governor of Imo State, said this on Monday.

Anyanwu stated in an interview with The Punch that the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) will provide the National Working Committee (NWC) with a report on the performance of the party in the 2023 elections.

He said that the NWC, chaired by interim Nationa Chairman Umar Damagum, would call for a NEC meeting after carefully studying and reviewing the report.

He said, “The NWC is expecting a report of the performance of the party in the 2023 election from the Presidential Campaign Council. It is after this report comes to the NWC that we will study it and call for an NEC meeting.”

In addition, Timothy Osadolor, a party member and member of the NWC, confirmed Anyanwu was correct regarding the performance report.

Osadolor emphasized that a paper from the presidential campaign council was required in order for it to be discussed at the NEC meeting.

He added, “The NEC meeting is taking time because a lot of reports, not just the election report, must be available. We need to know where we are at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal as well.”
