In response to the recent completion of an oil refinery built by Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Africa, in Lagos State, former presidential adviser Reno Omokri made fun of Igbos.

Several dignitaries were present when the oil plant was commissioned on Monday, according to news reports.

The enormous petrochemical complex, which is reputed to be the largest single-train refinery in the world, cost $19 billion to construct after being delayed for almost a decade, exceeding initial predictions of between $12 billion and $14 billion, and has an outstanding debt of roughly $2.75 billion.

The project also includes a deep seaport, a fertiliser factory, and a 435 megawatt power station.

Omokri responded to Dangote’s accomplishment in Lagos State by pointing out that during his speech, the businessman did not refer to Lagos as a wasteland or gloat about developing it; instead, he congratulated the residents of the state.

He wrote, “In addition to the $5 billion investment he has already made in the state, Dangote built a $19 billion refinery in Lagos. And when called to speak at the event marking its opening, Mr Dangote thanked the Government and people of Lagos state.

“He did not disrespect his hosts by making boasts that he is the one who developed Lagos. Or that Lagos is a non man’s land. He praised them in his speech. Why won’t such a man prosper? His humility is just too appealing..Gob bless Dangote!”
