According to the presidency, the Muhammadu Buhari administration has tracked down certain Nigerians responsible for the country’s crude oil theft.

According to news sources, experts in the oil and gas industry estimate that Nigeria loses roughly 600,000 barrels of crude oil daily to theft.

The oil thieves have been identified, apprehended, and charged in court, according to Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesman, in an interview with Channel Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday.

Shehu said that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, is pursuing the oil thieves in court on behalf of the federal government and that the government will take the case through to a just conclusion.

No Senator or National Assembly member was involved in the illicit behavior, according to the presidential spokesman, who would not identify the offenders.

Remember that Monguno said in February 2023 that between August 2018 and January 2023, the federal government successfully thwarted over three million theft attempts of crude oil.

The crime, according to the former major general, took place within Nigeria’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) up to the Republic of Togo.

He stated that the “Falcon Eye System” is a cutting-edge real-time intelligence Maritime Domain Awareness facility that is coordinated with the NSA. Security agencies have started a series of intelligence-driven maritime security initiatives, he claimed.

He claims that within five years, the facilities and initiatives have made it easier to prosecute over 200 vessels implicated in maritime crime and collect around 11 million liters of gasoline and diesel.

The theft of more than 3 million barrels of crude oil was stopped, he continued, and 83 oil vessels involved in various crude oil and product thefts had been apprehended.
