Meet New Acting Governor Of CBN, Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi

The suspension of Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday evening.

According to Newsmen, Willie Bassey, Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), announced the suspension in a statement on Friday.

Emefiele has been ordered to turn over control of the CBN to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who would serve as the central bank governor while the investigation and reforms are ongoing. This follows the instruction suspending Emefiele from his position.

Emefiele is anticipated to pass the reins to Deputy Governor Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi of the top bank.

According to news sources, Muhammadu Buhari, the former president, selected Adebisi Shonubi in 2018.

Shonubi oversaw the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS), which he served as managing director of.

Shonubi graduated from the University of Lagos with dual master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and business administration.

He served as the Board Member of Union Homes and the Executive Director of Information Technology and Operations at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.

Director of Corporate Services and Information Technology at Renaissance Securities Nigeria Limited.

He also served as the Head, Treasury Operations, for Citibank Nigeria Limited from 1990 to 1993.

He served as MBC International’s deputy general manager and oversaw their IT operational platforms between 1999 and 2007.

He held executive director positions at Ecobank Nigeria Limited and vice president positions at First City Monument Bank Limited (FCMB).

He has over 22 years of expertise as a savvy banker who is focused on information technology.
