President Bola Tinubu has filed a move to quash a subpoena filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, Chicago, in response to a new petition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Abubakar filed a suit on July 11 seeking more information about Tinubu’s academic record at Chicago State University.

Tinubu’s university admittance record, attendance dates, degrees, prizes, and other honors are among the documents sought by Abubakar and his lawyer, Angela M. Liu. The purpose of the subpoena, according to Abubakar, was to “test the truth and veracity of Mr. Tinubu’s assertions.”

However, Tinubu’s lawyer, Victor P. Henderson, petitioned the court to dismiss the petition on July 19, noting that no judge had heard and authorized the subpoena from Atiku.

Henderson also challenged the six-day compliance deadline, noting that it was less than the 14-day deadline set by Illinois Supreme Court Rules 219 and 137.

Henderson also chastised Abubakar for going on a “improper fishing expedition about a foreign public official utilizing the Illinois court’s subpoena power.”

According to news reports, Tinubu’s announcement as the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is being challenged by the former Vice President.
