George Emefiele, the brother of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, has described the outcome of events in court earlier on Tuesday as a total humiliation.

The Federal Ministry of Justice has previously charged Emefiele with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, according to media reports.

During the ruling on Tuesday, Emefiele pled not guilty to the charges brought against him by the secret police.

Despite the court’s decision, a battle erupted between DSS agents and prison officials over who would take Emefiele into custody.

Speaking to journalists after the reinstatement of the contentious suspended governor, George stated that his brother is not fleeing Nigeria.

He claims that as someone who has served Nigeria for nine years, he has no cause to flee the nation.

He said, “It is unfortunate that this is happening in Nigeria, a democratic nation. A nation that is built with people of integrity. Here we are today; three courts have said release him on bail, he is not running away from Nigeria.

“He has served this nation for nine years, where is he going? All his life is in Nigeria here, and you can imagine a situation of two military apparatus are fighting themselves, manhandling a commander of the prison commission, it is a complete disgrace to this nation.”
