As the Senate prepares to begin reviewing President Bola Tinubu’s 28 ministry nominations tomorrow, a clear schism has formed over the proposed procedure.

Senators Opeyemi Bamidele, Senate Majority Leader, and Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, both assert that the screening would be rigorous and that nominees will not be allowed to “take a bow and go” without answering questions.

Former Senate Minority Leader Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, on the other hand, firmly disagrees, forecasting no significant changes to the protocol.

An anonymous senator who talked with Vanguard agrees with Abaribe, adding that the list’s substantial reliance on former governors, senators, and House members may result in a sloppy screening procedure.

Adaramodu declared, “This time, the screening will be very thorough,” detailing that they’ll evaluate nominees’ experience, character, personality, and background, but made clear there would still be instances of the “take-a-bow-and-go” protocol.

On the other hand, Abaribe argued that the screening won’t be different, stating, “Nothing has changed to give any signal of a change in methodology.”

Despite their differences of opinion, Senators Bamidele and Adaramodu vow a thorough examination of the ministerial nominations to ensure their suitability for the positions.

Former Governors Nasir El-Rufai, Nyesom Wike, Abubakar Badaru, and Dave Umahi are among the ministerial nominees, as are other famous politicians.

The screening will begin on Monday, July 31, and senators and the general public alike are excited.
