The Presidential election Petition Court (PEPC) in Abuja is set to rule on three petitions attempting to overturn President Bola Tinubu’s victory.

The panel, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, has requested that all parties submit their final arguments.

Tinubu was proclaimed the victor of the presidential election held on February 25 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), defeating 17 other contenders.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party (LP) flagbearer, Peter Obi, who finished second and third, respectively, have contested the results.

Both Atiku and Obi claim to have won the presidential election and call Tinubu’s eligibility into question.

They claim Tinubu did not receive a majority of valid votes and want his Certificate of Return invalidated.

They also urge a new election without Tinubu, arguing he was never qualified to run.

Atiku has raised concerns about Tinubu’s birth date, schooling, state of origin, and dual citizenship with Guinea.

He also claims Tinubu’s degree certificate from Chicago State University belongs to a woman.

Obi and the LP have also challenged Tinubu’s eligibility, citing a previous indictment and fine from a US District Court for a dishonesty and drug trafficking offense. They accuse INEC of violating its own rules and regulations.

Reasons Why I Want Presidential Election Cancelled – Atiku

If their petitions are successful, the challengers hope that Tinubu’s votes will be discarded because he is ineligible, and that Obi, who they think fulfills all constitutional conditions, will be proclaimed the winner.

Alternatively, they want a new election in which Tinubu, his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the APC are barred from standing.

While five petitions were initially submitted, the Action Alliance (AA) and the Action Peoples Party (APP) withdrew their suits.

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM)’s surviving appeal contends that Tinubu’s initial Vice-Presidential candidate’s withdrawal disqualified his candidacy. This case is likewise awaiting a decision.
