Tobi Amusan, the reigning world track and field champion from Nigeria, was not granted permission to compete in the upcoming 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Because Amusan is now the subject of a doping investigation by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) decided to remove her name from the competition.

The 26-year-old was reportedly given the all-clear to compete in the World Athletics Championships last weekend, according to reports.

However, the body has since moved to refute the claims.

“Please be advised, reports that say Tobi Amusan has been cleared to compete in Budapest are wrong,” Nicole Jeffery, World Athletics’ Head of Communications said in a statement.

“No decision has been made in this case yet. When a decision is made, it will be announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit.”

Recall that Amusan was listed on the entry list for the tournament issued by World Athletics last week, but with the caveat that her participation would be contingent on the resolution of the whereabouts failing accusation brought against her by the AIU.

Before the World Athletics Championships begin, the AIU is anticipated to announce their choice.
