Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC)’s candidate for president in the 2023 election, has attacked Nigeria’s rise to third place in Africa and 28th overall in a recent English Proficiency Index ranking.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the Education First rankings, which were made public in November 2022, were for non-native English speaking nations.

Twenty African nations made up the ranking, with South Africa coming in at number 12 globally and first in Africa, Kenya coming in at number 20 globally and second in Africa, and Nigeria coming in at number three globally and third in Africa.

The EF EPI 2022 edition, which was generated using test data from 2.1 million test takers in 2021, places Singapore in second place globally and The Netherlands in first.

Sowore responded to the news on Monday by calling the position of Nigeria as the third-best English-speaking country in Africa and 28th overall a colonial mentality.

He wrote: “Nigeria Ranks 3rd Best English-Speaking Nation In Africa, 28th Globally” – Colonial Mentality!”
