The Labour Party (LP) won the 2023 governorship election in Delta State, according to Barrister Julius Abure, the party’s national chairman, but some anti-democratic forces worked together to steal the result.

Abure said that, aside from Delta State, the Labour Party also triumphed in a number of other states but was denied victory.

The LP Chairman made the statement on Thursday in response to the Appeal Court’s ruling regarding the suit brought by the party’s governorship candidate regarding the results of the governorship elections in Delta State in 2023.

LP’s suit against Governor Sheriff had already been rejected by the Delta State Election Tribunal on the grounds that Governor Sheriff had forsaken his pre-hearing.

Pela, however, appealed the election tribunal’s ruling to the Abuja Court Of Appeal, where he did so.

The Delta State Governorship Election Tribunal’s ruling was reversed by the judges of the Appeal Court Abuja because they did not agree with it.

The Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary responded to the news by saying that Obiora Ifoh did the right thing and the party is pleased.

He reprimanded the panel for first dismissing the party’s case.

The Labour Party, according to Abure, won numerous elections in 2023, including the Delta governorship, however the party was only cheated out of its victory.

“We are pleased with the position of the Appeal Court today.

“We were shocked at the decision of the tribunal to prematurely stifle our matter.

“We were not even allowed to present our matter. Justice was not served, and that made us approach the appellate court, requesting that it review the case which the tribunal had rejected.

“Labour Party won the governorship election in Delta State and like in most other states, some undemocratic elements conspired to snatch the state from us and they went ahead to use the tribunal to stop us from proving that we won,” the statement read in part.
