The 16th Headies Awards ceremony took place on Sunday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, but the winners of 13 categories were not announced by the event’s organisers.

When co-host Osas Ighodaro revealed midway through the presentation that the ceremony had ended with roughly 13 categories still to be presented, attendees and watchers around the world were surprised.

Before the ceremony was abruptly ended at around 2:30 in the morning Nigerian time, it was noticed that no female award categories had been awarded.

On social media, there have been conflicting views to the ceremony’s midway termination.

Some commenters suggested that the event’s premature end might have been caused by the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center’s time constraints.

The event’s organisers abruptly ended it without providing an explanation, although they later announced the unexpected awards on social media.
