The appeal by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his vice-president, Kashim Shettima, opposing Peter Obi’s candidature with the Labour Party (LP) was denied by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja.

Recall that prior to switching to the Labour Party ahead of the February 25th presidential election, Obi was a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Tribunal determined that Tinubu and Shettima do not have the right to contest Obi’s candidature while reading out the petitions that were submitted to it today at the Appeal Court in Abuja.

“The issue of membership of a political party is an internal party affair,” Justice Abba Mohammed said.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the tribunal also rejected the respondents’ argument that Obi and LP omitted to include Atiku Abubakar as a respondent in their petition.

This news source knows that President Tinubu and Shettima had contested the petition’s locus standi on the grounds that Peter Obi had not joined the LP for the required 30 days, but rather a few days prior to the primary election.
